As a child, San Francisco Bay Area Artist Stephen Kowalski often took his toys apart to see how they worked,
reassembling them into something different. For many years an award-winning Graphic Designer, and later an Industrial Designer, Kowalski has designed items big and small, from the huge scoreboard clock at San Francisco Giants’ Oracle Park and a full size replica steam locomotive, to smaller useful items of imagination. Working with antique and vintage mechanical, aircraft, nautical, and other decorative parts found the world over, Kowalski makes extraordinary one of-a-kind clocks, lamps, and furniture. Each item is completely handmade, and no two pieces are the same. As much as possible, vintage screws, nuts, and other hardware are used in assembly, ensuring the finished piece pays homage to a bygone era of creative wonder and invention.
